Network Of Social Groups
Social groups provide opportunities for social contact for older people, to get support and encouragement when needed. They aim to provide this support via a network of social groups which are all independantly organised via a Chairperson, Treasurer and Secretary which empowers groups to remain independent and empowers individuals to take on roles of responsibility.
The network comprises of a group of six rural groups and two groups from Bandon town. All members of the groups attend to make new friends, feel valued as a member of a group and partake in a range of social & recreational activities to combat social isolation. The groups run from September to May and take a break for the summer months of June, July and August.
The seven groups in the network are Newcestown Friendship Group, Crookstown Social Group, Innishannon/Knockavilla Friendship Club, Ballinspittle Friendship Group, Kilbrittain Young at Heart, Bandon Friends Together and Bandon Gateway Friendship Club. For more information call St. Michael’s Centre.
