Care and repair tasks can get more difficult to manage as we get older and there are not always those close by who can help when we need a little support which can be really frustrating. We all need a little help from a friend at times. St. Michael’s Centre has a team of volunteers who are trained; garda vetted and would like to help.
St. Michael’s Centre uses a pool of handy-people to carry out small repairs and to complete minor home tasks for older people free of charge. The most common services required by older people are: minor gardening, minor painting (e.g. front door, garden gate), changing plugs, fuses and light bulbs, moving furniture, fixing shelves, installing security locks and chains, installing domestic smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, assistance with I.T. issues such as connecting to the internet or connecting printers.
If you would like to avail of this service please call the office on 023-8840681 and we will be in contact as soon as we can. We will arrange for a person with the right set of skills to visit your home and carry out the repair work.
Free Carbon Monoxide Alarms & Smoke Alarms
Carbon Monoxide Alarms
As part of our Care & Repair voluntary service in conjunction with Age Action we have high quality carbon monoxide alarms for people aged 65 years or over. Carbon Monoxide is a clear, odorless, poisonous gas which can be highly dangerous. You can’t smell it or see it and is often called ‘the silent killer’; you can protect your home by installing an alarm. To arrange for our volunteers to come and install your alarm please call St. Michaels Centre and give your details to a staff member.
Smoke Alarm Scheme 2019
