Befriending

St. Michael’s Centre provides companionship to older people who are socially isolated through a weekly volunteer visit. The service is for anyone older who feels particularly isolated or lonely and would benefit from a befriending service. If you are interested in setting up this service please call St. Michael’s Centre or drop in to get a form. Once returned we will arrange to visit you and find out a little about you. This information is kept confidential but helps us to match you with someone who shares your interests. Visits usually take place for one hour a week and are based on social interaction. There is no personal care or cleaning aspects to this service, the aim is to provide a friendly chat.

All volunteers are garda vetted, reference checked and undertake a training course. Volunteers are supported by professional staff on an ongoing basis.
